Etnico Reserva 2012 is an organic red blend from Valle del Rapel in Chile.
It is produced by famous Emiliana organic vineyards from organic Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.
The vineyards are the pioneers of organic viticulture in Chile and arguably the biggest one in South America. I would consider them as a driver of organic viticulture in the southern hemisphere as well.
The wine displays very rich and ripe plum aromas, these plums are slightly stewed and spiced with some vanilla notes.
This rich compote of stewed fruit is rather pleasant as there is an acidic twist to it, just underlining sweet plum flavours. There are some cherries and black currant flavours too, but just very light on the back. The woodiness is opening up and then disappears – not bad actually for those who do not like earthy woody flavours as this one is just generously fruity without much oak.
As for me this organic red wine is quite mediocre in itself and tastes rather off dry (read, sweeter than usual), but can suit to a sweeter tooth. The flavours are there, but they are rather simple, yet pleasant, I will give you that!
This wine was sourced at Planet Organic for just £9.99.
